This is a musical about the power of consumerism and coming to terms with your identity.
In the mother and daughter’s fantasy world they speak only in verse, thinking they're a part of a commercial, pretending to be rich, buying new things every day on credit and dancing through the luxurious atmosphere at the mall.
The adrenaline kick from shopping unfortunately wears off when they return home with the ”goods”.They always yearn for more, filling their trailer with endless items while the void inside of them remains the same.
They never discuss deeper feelings, never explore any subject deeper than hair styles or nail polish. The daughter, Wendy loves her mother but needs to find a real meaning in life and in the end finds a way to break free.
