Synopsis
Two Afghan young actors are living in two separate towns far away from each other in Sweden. These two men had been acting in two successful and popular movies as main casts. Hossain, the actor of famous movie, The Taste of Cherry by Abas Kiyrostami produced in 1997 and Ahmad, actor of The Kite Runner, a film by Mark Foster produced in 2007. The film is based on novel of great Afghan-American author, Khaled Hossaini.
A 40 years Afghan man is working in a restaurant in Göteborg, Sweden. He moved to Sweden more than ten years ago after graduating a documentary film training in Iran and casting in the famous film The Taste of Cherry by Abbas Kiyarostami. He wanted to follow his work and dreams seriously in Sweden and study cinema there. But after starting his activities in Sweden, he has faced many big barriers and problems on his way; financial problems, helping his family economically and caring for his little sisters, his lack of awareness about the work and cinema conditions in Sweden, made him to ignore his dreams and see nothing in his future in cinema but darkness. He has started working in a restaurant with the hope of getting back into cinema one day, when he finds less financial pressures. But still after more than ten years, he could not find the opportunity to go back to his cinematic career.
He sees his past filming career with regrets and there is no way back to cinema, he claims. But he disappointingly still hopes for the future and waiting for the future opportunities. Hossain now washes the dishes in the restaurant till late hours of the nights. “I like my job here”, he says; but at the other side he believes that his job made him separate from the world of cinema and even watching movies.
Hossain recently, has been married for the second time, and he is waiting to see his wife coming from Afghanistan. He knows that he should work harder and harder these days and this even make him closer to impossible for getting back to his cinematic career again.
Far away from Hossain, Ahmad Khan 16 years old Afghan teenager lives in Dalarna, the one who starred as Hasan, in popular movie The Kite Runner, by American film maker Mark Foster. After all happenings and security issues for him after casting the movie, he had to leave Afghanistan. He goes to school and playing football filling his leisure times. He is very young and doesn’t know very much about film industry and the barriers in Sweden. The only thing he cares for now is to follow his dream in cinema and study it.
"I can't think of anything except cinema!” he says. He has a wonderful memories of the time with working with The Kite Runner and he found it very interesting. Unlike Hossain, Ahmad is very hopeful to the future, he wants to follow his studies in cinema and has no concern about his life a head.
The film emotionally approaches the living condition, personal and internal issues of these two, criticizing work system of the Afghan artists and actors living in Sweden.
While showing Hossain’s problems in getting back to the cinema, the film will also show what might be a future way of Ahmad, and it will discuss the question of whether their immigration will make their dreams come true or ruin them?
The film is a poetical documentary, which will show a contrast of regrets for the lost opportunities and hopes of gaining new opportunities for these two young Afghan artists.
